Type Locality and Naming

Along the Uruk River, Central Kyzylkum, Bukantau Mountains. I.M. Abdurazimova, 1998 (165, p.143). Stratotype in the vicinity of the Uru settlement, Bukantau Mountains.

Synonym: Uruskaya Suite, Urus, Урусская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Continental sands, siltstones, purple, brick-red, cross-bedded with clay lenses, wood remains. At the base, gravelite with large plant remains. Thickness 40-115m. In the suite, two members are distinguished: Argabai and Kul'kuduk.

The Kul'kuduk member (upper member?) is composed of fine-grained, arkosic, lilac sands with cross-bedding. Thickness 31m.

The Argabai member is represented by: layer 1 - fine-grained, arkosic, lilac-gray, cross-bedded sand. Thickness 24m. layer 2 - alternating pinkish-lilac sands and siltstones. Thickness 4m; layer 3 - brick-red siltstone with sand nests. Thickness 8m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The suite unconformably overlies the Shuruk-Cret Fm and transgressively overlies the Paleozoic

Upper contact

It is overlain with erosion by the Uchkuduk-Cret Fm.

Regional extent

It is an analogue of the Donguztau Fm.
